KEITH WILLIAMS' TOP TEN COIN-OP VIDEOGAMES|
11. The Last Starfighter
The best movie license that never was! With Star Wars playability,
I,Robot graphics and stereo sound, this would have been a game better
remembered than Star Wars!!
A fun sports game, the first to appear and the first to
incorporate the TrakBall. Influential for all those sports game
lovers around the world.
9. Steel Talons
A fun simulator game that allowed for air combat networked
playability to be experimented with. Influential in creating
the building blocks for location based entertainment and simulation
style arcade design.
8. I, Robot
A compelling game, but more importantly it brought
unique features of polygon graphics and a surreal first
person environment. Influential in bringing 3D graphics
to the audience.
7. Night Driver
A compelling and difficult driving experience with
growing difficulty. Influential for without this - no Pole
Position, no Hard Drivin', no SF Rush.
6. Red Baron
A real air-based shoot-em-up which pulled the players
into the heart of WWI action. Influential as it led the road
towards being able to create games like Star Wars, and StarBlade.
5. Marble Madness
A fun game with touches of humor and just a very surreal
playing style, using the trusty TrakBall. Influential in control
interface and player interaction with landscape, (important for
the future of game design).
4. Star Wars
A great space-based shoot-em-up with flying and shooting
excitement. Influential in proving that a first person simulator
style space game could work.
A great land-based shoot-em-up with lots of tank blasting
fun, shame a networked version was stooped at prototype stage.
Influential in close combat first person perspective simulation
2. Hard Drivin'
The best of the drivers until SF Rush came along, the car
physics and the special tricks were a real Rush. Influential
in creating simulation styled playability in arcade design.
1. San Francisco RUSH
Best racing game, keeping the players coming back for more
with the hidden routes. Influential in bringing multiple routes to
